Today is a historic day for our nation. With that one statement, you get the sense of awe and start to understand how important this day really is. Not only will today decided some very important legislature for the state of California, but will determine whether or not we decide to head down the same path as the prior 8 years or forge ahead with a different candidate - one centered on dealing with domestic issues.
Now, when I was younger, I was for the Peace and Freedom party - socialistic in nature - yes, but I believed that the government has a right and duty to help its citizens. Well - that was 18 years ago. Things have changed a bit. I am a Silicon Valley white collar worker with 3 kids and a lovely wife and a great home in Almaden Valley of San Jose. I am a bit more conservative than I used to be, but that doesn't mean that I don't think America needs help - needs change.
We have a lot of domestic issues that need to be addressed and that doesn't mean clothing and feeding the indigent people of Iraq or Afghanistan. We need to take the Billions of dollars spent there, and spend it here. Why is it that the Bush family seems to take a good think and make it bad? Anyone bother with that question?
Who knows - maybe McCain will make a good choice as President of the United States, but no matter the outcome tonight - my vote will count towards something. If Obama does not win, then my vote will count as a mark against the new regime and McCain will have to address me and my fellow citizens and deal with the idea that we didn't believe in him or what he can do for the U.S. He will have to spend the next 3-4 years making us believe the right person was chosen. But I don't think I will have to worry about that.
I am hoping against hope that Obama will retain and maintain his lead during this election night and we will all have a clearer picture of where our government is heading come tomorrow morning.
No matter the outcome - may God Bless Our Nation and may the Blessings also help the next President of the United States.
