A Change Of Attitude?

September 25th, 2008 Bill Teeple No comments

I have been re-reading my blog over the past few days and have found that I have managed to instill my pessimistic attitude into my writing.  I like to focus on the good things in life, the sunny mornings, the warm days at the beach, the laughing child, etc. etc. etc.

For this, I apologize.

You, my readers (all two of you), deserve the normal satirical and spontaneous humor that I am normally seen spewing.

So my pledge to you all is to lighten up a bit – but that doesn’t mean I won’t still fire off every now and then and let loose with my Italian passionate temper…

:-)

Be talking soon,
Bill

Cannot Afford 700 Billion Bailout

September 23rd, 2008 Bill Teeple No comments

Is anyone listening?

Can everyone in the back of the room hear me?  I will try to speak directly into the microphone so you all will hear my words clearly.

Here goes:

We cannot afford a 700 Billion Dollar Bailout!

Did you all hear that?

This country cannot afford the 700 billion dollar bailout plan proposed by the Bush Administration.  Did you know there is no oversight for that 700 billion?  No – let’s just throw money at the issue and see what happens.  No regulatory changes.  No management of the problem – just the excercise of putting cotton onto an amputated limb, hoping for the best.  We have to CAUTERIZE the wound created by the de-regulation of the banking and mortgage industry.

I took my action today and sent to my Representative and Senators the following note:

<NAME HERE>,

I am writing to you today to tell you how disappointed I am in the current administration and the planned 700 billion dollar bailout for the banking industry.

The thought that the government would have to intervene in and absorb the cost of bailing out an industry that for so long has operated without proper oversight and management angers me.  Not only because it is I and my family that will have to bear the cost of this bailout with higher taxes and less usable income over the next few years, but also that the plan itself for the bailout just throws gobbs of money at the problem with no future oversight or management of the issue.

We almost need to harken back to 80 years to a time when the government had in place the regulatory commission to manage the banking industry.  I am sorry to say that under Carter, then Regan and the final death knell signed by Clinton (whom I really like) has helped foster this disaster.  It is bad enough that the market and economy are in a depressed state, but this surely doesn’t help anything.

I urge you to fight the reckless and careless spending of our future by the Bush Administration.  A detailed plan of attach must be formulated before we throw our future away.  I am not rich, but thankfully I am not poor.  There is too much at stake for us to just sit by and not take action!

Thank you for your support.

I urge you to do the same!  Flood your Senator and Representative with messages – urge them to be more responsible in their spending.  A bailout is probably required, but better oversight and management needs to be a portion of that bailout – not a blind and blank check issued!

My blog, my two cents!

No Apologies Necessary

September 17th, 2008 Bill Teeple No comments

A family member contacted me about my last posting and my inclusion of them into the category of ‘ignorant’ and it isn’t that I was labeling them as ignorant, but more or less their firm unwavering beliefs.

I guess to have convictions is a good thing in life, especially when the moral fabric of our society seems to be frayed and falling apart before our eyes.  I won’t wrong them for that.  I responded to my family with a:

I love you, but we just don’t believe the same things.

And that is the heart of it all.  I am not some hate-mongering, devil-worshiping person who wants ABORTION or GAY SEX in the streets!  Don’t take my viewpoints like that!  I do believe that a woman has the right to make an informed decision and she will have to answer for that decision on judgement day – IN OTHER WORDS, I believe the mother-to-be has the RIGHT to choose!  That is not what I would do!

For Gays and Lesbians – I truly believe in two things:

  • The same rights we heterosexuals get should be extended to the the G&L community!  TOTALLY!!!   Why should heterosexual married couples get the only rights and benefits!
  • and… This goes against the church teachings, but if two people love each other, that love can be no less valued than if they were a man/woman or man/man, woman/woman couple!  LOVE is LOVE!  May GOD bless all our relationships so we continue to grow in faith and respect for each other!

That being said – do you know the difference between the first point and the second.  The first is a political statement!  RIGHTS from the state!  The second is a religious take on the institution of marriage.  The Catholic church will never condone/allow same sex marriages, but to me LOVE IS LOVE and it means everything in the end.

I don’t apologize for my candor.  I speak the way I want to.  Sometimes it offends; sometimes it speaks to you.  I can be brass in my intellectual discussions, but I do tend to listen to both sides before making a judgment.

Again, My Blog, My Two Cents!
